Krakow / Kraków

I never thought I’d end up in Poland. Am I glad I did? You bet. The city of Kraków stole my heart. What a charming, unassuming place. Its not a place that is really hyped up about in magazines and on travel blogs – I’d consider it underrated in the least. It has a vibe like no other, holds so much historical importance and the architecture is so very beautiful. We did a walking tour of Kraków, explored in the little tourist shops and all in all had a ball. Its safe to saw that Kraków was one of my favourite places that we visited (although I did love them all)!

Prague / Praha

Prague is such a beautiful place with the loveliest buildings. It is home to the largest castle complex in all of Europe, Prague Castle. Some of the prettiest views can be seen from there! Although my time in Prague was brief, it was oh so lovely. What a charming place.

Salzburg

Ah, Salzburg. I’ve watched the Sound of Music a few times too many when I was little (every week for a few months), so you can imagine my excitement to be in the very place it was made! The beautiful gardens with rolling lawns was a treat to visit (especially since a scene from The Sound of Music was shot there). As I’ve played the piano for most of my life, I thoroughly enjoyed the Mozart Geburtshaus, (Mozart’s birth house) which is now a wonderful museum. We only spent a few hours in Salzburg, but I enjoyed every second!

Munich / München

Munich is incredible. Its such a beautiful city with the loveliest buildings. We explored by bike, as one does in Germany. Its incredible how many cyclists there are! As a lover of riding my bike, I had such a blast! Anyhow, here are my snaps! (I don’t have too many snaps as my phone wasn’t on me for most of the tour. Again, I tried to absorb things through my eyes and not only my lens).

Venice / Venezia

I’ve always dreamed of going to Venice. I’ve seen people riding gondolas in the canals in movies and photos, and never thought I’d be lucky enough to visit this beautiful place.

Venice is made up of 120 small islands, and there are around 400 bridges going over the canals! The buildings are exceptionally beautiful, and the little restaurants and cafes on the water have such a lovely charm. Venice is just as beautiful as the photos. Its one of those places where you have to control yourself or else you’ll just take photos of everything.

A water taxi or gondola is a must. You can’t go to Venice and not go on the water! We also explored quite a bit on foot, then crossed the Rialto Bridge and explored the other side. Its such a beautiful place. It definitely stole a chunk of my heart too! I dream of going back some day.

Rome / Roma

When in Rome, gelato is abundant and traffic rules are non-existent. You feel as if you’ve stepped into a parallel dimension where laid-back life, and hustle and bustle harmoniously co-exist . Romans are charismatic and love their city.  I have never been to a city that values aesthetic appeal so much. The old buildings all painted in a cohesive colour palette make for a visual paradise. It feels like walking on a rather massive, exceptionally beautiful movie set.  To say that Rome is beautiful would be an understatement.

The weather was really hot when we were in Rome, and it was such a pleasure to escape what has been a rather harsh winter in Cape Town.

Italian gelato is amazing. On just about every corner, you will find a gelateria – some are high-end, and others are little family shops – each with their own unique charm. I thoroughly enjoyed every spoonful!

Home

After traveling around Europe for the past twelve days, I am home. It was the best way I could possibly have spent my first two weeks as a sixteen year-old.

Traveling has woken up a part of me that I knew existed, but haven’t been very familiar with. It makes me hungry for adventure, and makes me want to do and see as much as possible. My heart is full of wanderlust, my head is full of inspiration and ideas and my gallery is full of photos. Being home feels a little strange, I’ll admit. But coming home is part of the journey.

This trip was very different for me. It was the first time that I flew without my parents, and I learnt a lot due to the fact that there were so many things I had to do for myself. Even although it was a school trip and we had two teachers with us, we checked in ourselves, managed our own money, and were responsible for ourselves. I learnt a lot about the places I visited, but I learnt even more about traveling and myself in general, and how different things are in other countries.

I certainly am hungrier than ever for adventure and travel. I think its safe to say that the travel bug has bitten!

Over the next little while, I’ll be sharing some words and photos of the places I visited over here.

Durban Diaries / Day 4

Hello
After a lovely breakfast at the country estate we are staying at, we set out to explore the Midlands Meander. The weather was humid and there was a storm warning too!

There are a few really cute crafty stalls and shops all along the meander. Some of my favourites were the Junction and Piggly Wiggly. The Pizza Place make THEE BEST pizzas ever!

The Waffle Shack at The Junction. So dreamy!

We visited a few more stalls, then went to the incredible Nelson Mandela Capture Site. It’s so beautifully designed and an incredible work of art.

The incredible capture site!

I hope you’ve enjoyed these travel diaries! They’ve been a fun way for me to record my trip too! I’m flying back tomorrow! It’s been a wonderful holiday, but I do miss the Mother City.
Have a good holiday, SA people.

Durban Diaries / Day 3

Hello

We left Ballito today and ventured into the Midlands. The weather here was much hotter than in Ballito and it felt like pure summer. We stopped very briefly but mostly just pushed on to reach our accommodation before dark. It was a lovely, but tiring day. Can’t wait to share my adventures with you tomorrow!

Durban Diaries / Day 2

Hello

This morning, I woke up to sunny skies and gentle breezes along the beautiful Dolphin Coast. After 6am, it was already bright! After breakfast, I took a little stroll around the hotel and took a few planty photos.

We then went to the beach for a little bit before heading out to Durban itself.
We went to the Station Drive area that reminded me so much of Woodstock in Cape Town. We walked around in some of the stores, my favourite being the colourful and quirky Shoppe, then made our way to the Morning Trade market in The Plant and picked up some yummy treats. We crossed the road and went into the Warehouse next door. We picked up some juice from The Cold-Pressed Juice Co.

Cold-pressed juices from the Cold-Pressed Juice Co. So good!
Yummy macaroons we had at The Morning Trade

We ventured in Umhlanga and after some driving around, decided to go to uShaka Marine World. We dropped in there for a few hours, walked around, got a henna tattoo and had some lunch at the beautiful Moyo restaurant which is at the end of the pier. The view was gorgeous.
Virign Strawberry Daquiri. My fave …
The beautiful views of Durban from the pier!

Long, summery days mean happy hearts and sleep heads.
