Cape Towns Faves / 02.

Hello

I recently spent some time in the CBD exploring mainly Loop Street and Long Street. I thought I’d sum up some of my favourite places that I found on my walkabout. I love Town and the shops and cafes are so trendy and cute!

The Company Gardens

I recently visited the Company Gardens for the first time in quite a few years. Since primary school, we frequently visited the gardens and the museums in the vicinity too. The other day, I popped in, and was amazed by the upkeep and improvements that have been made. There’s a wonderful vegetable garden and a cool restaurant and cafe. Its amazing to see that after all these years, the historical place is so glorious and beautiful. And to top it all off, the view of our lovely Table Mountain is just incredible.

Yours Truly Cafe

I’ve been drooling over photos of this cafe for a few months now, but recently when I was in the CBD, I popped into the Loop Street branch. I love little cafes that are interesting and this one is really cool! It’s so breezy and airy, with dark, reddish-brown leather seating, and wooden tables with bar-style stools. There are plants hanging outside the window of the cafe an and perched on shelves inside too. It reminded me of the whole indoor-outdoor living that is so trendy. They also make a mean frappe!

Long Street and Loop Street

I know this sounds kind of broad-spectrum, but I generally love Long Street and Loop Street. They have all the shops that I really like that sell everything from coffee to artisan clothing and ceramics. I spent some time strolling down these streets, popping into stores and looking at the interesting clothing, watches, furniture and clothing. I love all things handmade and local, so for me, I could spend the whole day on these streets. My favouriteย  shops that I came across were Stable, Mungo and Jemima and 117 on Long. I also saw some art galleries and my favourite one in particular was Smith, that has such wonderful and colourful paintings.

Made in SA / Deerly Studio

Hello

Today, Iโ€™m going to be writing about a few of the lovely products from Deerly Studio, which is owned by Monja Viljoen. Monja is the creative director and her passion is reflected into the ranges she produces.ย I love the mix of colours and modern typography that make up these interesting and fresh yet simple products!

Notebook

The cover is quite thick and made of a glossy cardboard. The colour combinations on this particular book are really striking and the print quality is excellent! The paper inside is lined and has a fun border made up of paint strokes. I was pleasantly surprised, because although the paper feels quite thin, it has minimal bleed-through when it comes to pen and even watercolour. (You know how important that is to me. I literally script everywhere with my watercolours!)

Greeting Cards

The greeting cards are also printed on a lovely, glossy and thick cardboard. I love the bright colours and typography. They are simple and pretty, but still fun and modern. My favourite one is definitely the Good Luck card. That scripting is SO pretty!

Gift Tags

These gift tags are simple and just the right size to pop in any gift bag or tie onto a ribbon. If youโ€™ve been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I love art journaling and scrapbooking. These gift tags make perfect journaling cards too! The also come with a suede-y ribbon that feels almost leathery. It comes in a little roll, instead of in individual strips, so you can use it for anything! Such a good idea.

List Pad

The list pad is really cool and thick too, and has a similar border to the one inside the notebook. Itโ€™s a bit more minimalist in comparison to the rest of the products, but I love the grey, black and white colour combination. It has lots of space for writing those long to-do lists and shopping lists, because the pages are nice and long. It can make grocery shopping or just general errands so much more fun!

I really enjoyed writing about these products and photographing them was such fun too! What was your favourite item? You can find all of these products and more here.

Have a lovely week!

{As usual, all opinions and photographs are my own. I wouldnโ€™t write about products that I wouldnโ€™t buy or use. Also, thanks Monja for sending me some of your lovely goodies! }

Made in SA / Mocho Loco

Mocho Loco | Graphic Design | Wedding Invitations | BrandingHello

Today Iโ€™m excited to be sharing a bit about the Mocho Loco stationery products that are fun, eclectic and modern, as well as colourful! Moco Locho was started by Vicky in 2009, who is originally from Buenos Aires. Mocho Loco was mainly specialising in branding and illustration, but this range of stationery recently launched and I LOVE it! Iโ€™ve got a few things from the Confetti and Home Flora ranges to show you today! Everything is designed and printed right here in Cape Town, too!

Notebooks
The notebooks are fun and colourful with wonderful prints and patterns on the covers and just the right amount of paper. I simply love confetti and geometric shapes and these are used so beautifully in this particular range. The pastel colours are also lovely. The paper inside is quite thick, too. (These notebooks come in a pack of three).

Greeting Cards
The greeting cards are colourful and vibrant, as well as versatile, as they can be used for any occasion. The Home Flora cards are especially versatile because the can be used for anyone. I love the modern use of plants on these cards. They also come with a brown paper envelope.

The confetti greeting card is a really cute size and I love the pretty little envelope it comes with.

Gift Tags
The gift tags are SO cute. They are such a lovely size, and they, too, are extremely versatile. I used one of my gift tags in one of my scrapbooking layouts. There are SO many purposes for gift tags, itโ€™s almost crazy! They can be used in journals and planners, (obviously) on gifts, in scrapbooks and I sometimes even use gift tags as bookmarks.

Party Toppers
These are such wonderful little things. They are made out of veneer wood and they are perfect for popping in cupcakes at any party. They are easy on the environment too, as you can reuse them many times. All you have to do is wipe them off when youโ€™re done using them. Theyโ€™re so pretty and very sturdy. I also used one of mine in a plant that lives in my room!

I simply love these bright, fresh and funky products! If you love any of these things, you can find them all and more on the Mocho Loco website. You can never have too much stationery and these fun ranges are sure to brighten up your workspace as we head into the heart of winter!

Art Journal Peeks / 01.

Hello

Itโ€™s been a while since Iโ€™ve written here. Iโ€™ve been so busy, juggling tests, school functions and now, exams! I can barely contain my excitement for Kamers Vol Geskenke. Itโ€™s happening at the moment in Cape Town, at the Castle of Good Hope and Iโ€™m visiting it over this weekend. Itโ€™s a massive show with only handmade and crafted things. Sounds amazing, right? Anyways, I wanted to keep posting my journaling though. Iโ€™ve taken some shots of a few of the latest pages in my journal. I hope you enjoy flipping through the pictures.

This is probably my favourite page in my current journal. The quote on the left I found in Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and I L.O.V.E it! The page on the right was inspired by a rainy day, as you’ve probably sussed out.ย
P1020577.JPG
I love the right page. I did it by using the straw technique. Just make your watercolours quite wet and drop it on. Then, whilst its still wet, blow it with a straw and watch the colours take over your page!ย

Botanical prints and patterns are something I’ve been on the look out for and I’ve been experimenting a lot.ย

I made this paper by using the straw technique too.ย

As you can see, my journal is getting really full!

Have a fabulous weekend! Good luck to everyone writing exams at the moment! Keep warm, Southern Hemisphere peeps.
